Dr.A.K. Bhat graduated (MBBS) from Stanley Medical College Chennai. He did his masters (MS) in General Surgery from Government Medical College, Mysore. He is also certified by the Diplomate of the National Board (DNB) in General Surgery.

He then went on to do his post doctorate training (MCH) in Plastic Surgery. He has worked as Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at the prestigious Kasthurba Medical College, Mangalore before starting practice in Kochi in the year 2000. Dr. A. K. Bhat has undergone specialized training in plastic re constructive surgery in Diabetic Foot from Apollo hospitals Chennai and from Hamburg Germany.

He has delivered many lectures in local and regional conferences and published papers in national journals. He received the best paper presentation award for ‘Necrotising Fascitis’ at the annual conference of Diabetic Foot society of India (DFSI) in 2005. His area of focus has always been diabetic foot management. His unique qualification (mastery of plastic surgery as well his rich experience in managing diabetic foot problems) makes him one among the most specialized diabetic foot surgeons in India to treat patients with diabetic foot infection. He looks at limb salvage (prevention of amputation) as well as the functional and cosmetic aspects of diabetic foot thanks to his unique qualification. He has successfully treated thousands of diabetic foot infections in Kochi and saved many from limb amputation.

His patients and colleagues call his “Magic Fingers” for his magnificent work in the field of Diabetic Foot infections in this part of the world. He is the secretary of Association of Plastic Surgeons (Kochi Chapter)and the Surgical Society . He is very passionate about his music with a deep understanding and interest in Carnatic music. He is also an avid traveler and has visited several countries in the past two decades. He loves meeting people from other countries and is deeply interested in studying other cultures.
