Dr. Lakshmi Arun Babu is originally from Kollam. She was inspired at a young age by her father, Dr Sivaramakrishna Pillai, an eminent surgeon in Kollam. She graduated from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore. Even in medical college she was active in charitable activities and community outreach initiatives. She did her post-graduation in Internal Medicine in the United States, at Staten Island University Hospital in New York. During her training, she won awards in research activities and for her teaching skills. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

She went on to work as a consultant in Hospitalist Medicine in Staten Island University Hospital in New York, along with her husband, a Neurologist. She is a member of the American College of Physicians. While in the US, she had developed a keen interest in the field of Diabetes and Endocrinology. Pursuing her passion for treating patients with diabetes, she returned to India and has been at Silverline Hospital from its inception. She has also been active in charitable and community medical outreach initiatives in Ernakulam. Apart from her professional skills and community activities, she is also an accomplished singer.
