A Seminar on Millets

On Sunday, September 24, 2023, 157 th seminar organised by the sustainable development forum (Global Millet Foundation) was held at Melmana gardens, Muvattupuzha to discuss about millets. 

The event featured distinguished speakers including Dr. Tom Babu, The Medical Director & Chief Endocrinologist, Silverline Hospital, Kochi,  Dr. Pratheep Kottam (Senior Consultant Neurologist, Rajagiri Hospital ) and Ms.Neetha Pratheep (Chief Nutritionist, Silverline Hospital).

The meeting was presided over and inaugurated by Rev Father Dr. Thomas Athanasius, the co-patron of the event. The ceremony began with the traditional lighting of the lamp by dignitaries.

Dr. Tom delivered the keynote address on the importance of millets in Diabetes and Endocrinology. His talk was informative and interesting. Dr. Pratheep spoke about the antioxidant properties of millets and the importance of including gluten-free diets for neurological diseases like dementia and Alzheimer's disease. He emphasized the role of B12 in treating neuropathy.

Neetha, the nutritionist, discussed the nutritional benefits of millets and provided insights on how to use them, she also shared some millet-based recipes. The event concluded with a delicious millet buffet dinner, providing an opportunity for attendees to savor millet-based dishes and further discuss the topics presented during the meeting.

The event was presided over by Dr Thomas Athanasious, senior Metropolitan of the Orthodox Church. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr PO Abraham. Global Millets Foundation and Sustainable Development Forum jointly organized the seminar. Dr K M George, Secretary General, GMF.
